Meet Our Musician: Ann Kuo
Ann Kuo, a talented flutist, is currently pursuing her studies at the renowned Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles. With the guidance of Jim Walker, she has become the youngest and first Taiwanese flute student to be selected into the prestigious Colburn Music Academy. Ann's exceptional musical abilities have earned her recognition, including a Third Prize in the National Flute Association Young Artists Competition. She has also achieved remarkable success in international competitions such as the International Flute Competition Guangzhou, Alexander & Buono International Flute Competition, Biwako International Flute Competition, and National Taiwan Music Student Competition. Ann's performances span across different genres, showcasing her versatility in classical solo, chamber music, jazz, and pop. Having performed in various countries including the USA, Canada, Austria, Switzerland, Taiwan, and Japan, Ann's unique musical style and Taiwanese background make her an innovative and captivating musician. As a soloist, she has collaborated with renowned orchestras like the Colburn Orchestra and the Mount Orchestra, and has presented recitals in Los Angeles and Taipei. Ann has had the privilege of learning from esteemed professionals such as Emmanuel Pahud, Julien Beaudiment, Denis Bouriakov, Ransom Wilson, Carol Wincenc, and many others. During the summer, she has participated in prestigious music festivals and academies including the Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra, Domaine Forget International Academy, Interlochen Arts Camp, Taipei Music Academy and Festival, and Sarasota Festival. Notably, Ann organized a charity recital in Taiwan titled "Sound of Home," where she performed music from around the world and premiered a new composition by a Taiwanese composer. The proceeds from the recital were dedicated to supporting two orphanages in Taiwan. Looking ahead, Ann aspires to achieve the pinnacle of artistry while embracing the diverse world of music. |
